History was made in Geelong on Tuesday 24th September
2013, when the Greater Geelong Council passed a motion to fly the Aboriginal
flag on the City Hall alongside the Australian one. Councillor Eddy Kontelj
introduced the motion by saying: "we
will fly the Aboriginal flag prominently, proudly and permanently in
Geelong".
Members and staff of the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-op
alongside One Fire Reconciliation Group members were there to hear and applaud
the decision. Work will be done to put up the new flag poles, and we look
forward to the flag raising and celebrations.
